Transformative mediation is a unique approach that prioritizes empowerment and recognition rather than simply reaching a settlement. Instead of pushing people toward a quick agreement, the mediator helps each person slow the conversation down, gain clarity about what matters most to them, and make their own informed choices about how to move forward.
At the same time, the process creates opportunities for each person to better understand the other’s perspective. That doesn’t mean they have to agree, forgive, or even see the situation the same way. It means they are given the space to speak, listen, ask questions, and make decisions with a clearer understanding of both the conflict and each other.
Sometimes an agreement results. Sometimes the most important outcome is simply a more productive conversation, greater clarity, or a better way of dealing with the conflict going forward.
